Production assistant & Trainee Roaster
Join our vibrant roastery team in an essential role as a Production Assistant and Trainee Roaster. You will be managing the daily tasks of coffee roasting, packaging, and dispatch. While experience in a fast-paced roastery is advantageous, it's not a mandatory. We're looking for individuals committed to personal and professional development. This position offers an exciting pathway to our in-house training program, paving the way for future opportunities as a production roaster.
You will work closely with the Head Roaster in performing roasting experiments, improving inventory accuracy and forecasting, along with improvement of the roasting profiles.
Roastery set up:
Our roasting is performed in top-of-the-line equipment. Roaster for our production coffee is a custom built Diedrich IR-12 and for sample roasting we have the Diedrich IR-1, both fully automated state of the art pieces of kit.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Fulfilling the daily roasting schedule to the specific roast profiles
- Monitoring the quality control procedure, ensuring all batches are roasted to the set specifications
- Regular cupping, brewing and espresso extraction testing as part of the quality control process
- Organise and maintain a clean and safe workplace
- Labeling of bags and boxes accordingly
- Preparing packaging materials for shipping
- Timely fulfillment of orders for dispatch/collection
- Tracking and maintaining inventory levels for green coffee stock, roasted coffees and all other warehouse goods
- Fulfilling the daily, weekly and monthly maintenance and cleaning schedule of the equipment
- Other work-related activities as required by the Head Roaster or Manager
Requirements:
- A self-starting ‘’can do’’ attitude towards situations and daily tasks
- Attention to detail, calm under pressure and resilient
- Able to work as part of the team and on their own initiative
- Physically fit. Must be able to stand up all day, drag and lift heavy weights
- Always delivering a positive experience to retail and wholesale customers
- Positive, direct, and action-oriented communication skills
- Love of coffee and coffee culture UK and internationally
- Happy to work early/late hours and occasional weekends
Desirable:
- Previous Barista or coffee related experience
